What struck Vanhee-Cybulski-accustomed to working with the scale of the human body-was “her way of using color to transform public spaces in Paris,” she told i-D. Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski, the women’s artistic director for Hermès, had brought in Moscovici after seeing Cité Polychrome, a recent plein-air project commissioned by the Ministry of Culture, which mounted the painter’s enormous abstract scrims onto building facades, refashioning quotidien surroundings into something of an opera set. The artist Flora Moscovici had painted a series of panels, nearly 20 by 30 feet, with gradient tones of warm ochre and rust they drifted slowly on a track, creating the feeling of a circular room within an airplane hangar on the outskirts of Paris. Split Keyboard / Strum / CC Faders- You can split the keyboard to play two different sounds, and adjust the split point as you like. The Replay All mode creates chordal rhythms merely by varying chord pressure, and gives finger drummers entirely new ways to perform beats live. Expressive Swing Arpeggiator - LinnStrument's built-in Arpeggiator responds to all dimensions of movement for entirely new ways of beat-synced play. The large LinnStrument model displays 16 steps at a time of 32, whereas the smaller LinnStrument 128 displays 8 steps at a time of 32. Step Sequencer - Use LinnStrument's RGB note pads as a powerful 2-track step sequencer with per-note velocity/duration/bend/y-axis values, any time signature, independent track step sizes and loop lengths, scales/drums/notes views, reverse play, live play while sequence plays, swing timing and more. More: More About LinnStrument's Smart MIDI We also provide a free MPE sound library for Apple's MainStage and Logic, plus a free license for the excellent MPE-compatible DAW Bitwig 8-Track. LinnStrument's official synth is the excellent and free Surge XT, which includes a library of sounds optimized for LinnStrument. It's already supported in a long list of major software and hardware instruments. To also perform fully polyphonic pitch slides and Y-axis gestures, you'll need a synth that's compatible with MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression), a new MIDI standard that uses a separate MIDI channel for each touch. And LinnStrument gets around MIDI's one-channel Pitch Bend limitations by automatically quantizing polyphonic pitch slides to semitones, while leaving solo pitch slides continuous. LinnStrument sends standard MIDI messages over its USB or MIDI output jacks, and is configured by default to work out-of-the-box over a single MIDI channel for compatibility with every MIDI sound generator in existence, but with the advantages over a MIDI keyboard of performed vibrato, note-to-note pitch slides, polyphonic pressure sensing, and forward/backward touch control. Or if you're a piano keyboard player, do what many LinnStrument players do: place LinnStrument behind your keyboard for expressive solo performance with your right hand. Alternatively, you can light any scale and in any of 10 colors. To make it easy to find the right notes, the scale notes are lit, with all the C note pads lit in a different color and having a Braille-size bump for tactile feedback. 3) 5 octaves (on the large model) fit in a playing surface that's only 18.7 inches (475 mm) wide. 2) There are multiple instances of each pitch, permitting solo and accompaniment play in the same pitch range, and a variety of fingerings for each chord or scale. The Fourths String Layout has other advantages over the piano keyboard: 1) It's isomorphic, meaning that the same chord or scale fingering works in all musical keys. This note arrangement is called the 4ths String Layout and is fast becoming a new standard for expressive musical control, used in Ableton Push, Roli's LightPad Block, a variety of iPad apps and now over 4200 LinnStruments sold. By default they are tuned in musical fourths (five semitones), like a bass guitar with 8 strings. You can tune the rows like a guitar, violin or however you wish. Each row is a series of consecutive semitones, so bends and pitch slides are simple and intuitive: play a note, slide left or right to the destination note, then wiggle it for vibrato. And seamless Patch switching lets you hold a chord in one sound while moving to a new Patch. So LinnStrument's notes are arranged as on any stringed instrument. With Multimapping, you can map multiple parameters to a single control, so you can smoothly manipulate your sound without trying to turn several knobs at once. Start walking a bass line up the keyboard, and the split point moves up so the bass doesn’t suddenly become some other sound when you get into the higher notes. It intelligently moves the split point on a split keyboard Patch to respond to what you’re playing. For starters, there’s the Floating Split Point. MainStage is not only an amazing host for software instruments and effects, it’s also packed with innovations that let you shine on stage. Or bring the authentic sounds of a Hammond B3 organ, Hohner Clavinet D6, or Fender Rhodes or Wurlitzer electric pianos on stage. Use Retro Synth to re-create your favourite electronic sounds from the ’70s and ’80s with an intuitive set of controls. And Chord Trigger allows you to press a single note and have it trigger an entire complex chord. The Arpeggiator features note-based remote controls and flexible latch modes.
